The new premier of the People's Republic of China has agreed to attend a summit with the president of the United States and other world leaders. "Attack on the Queen" is a fascinating geopolitical thriller that is nearly buried by a convoluted plot setup and very wooden writing at the beginning. MacDougal has crafted believable characters in a fast-paced storyline. "Angle of Impact" is about blind ambition, corruption and conspiracies on many levels. Then her husband gets kidnapped and the chase is on. Slowly, Dana figures out that someone is after the film she shot from the Ferris wheel. The long hours don't help her troubled marriage and when her home is burglarized because her husband failed to set the security alarm, he moves out. After a meeting of Pennsteel executives at a roadside diner, Dana's car is broken into and her laptop taken. Knowing there will be many lawsuits against Pennsteel, Dana assembles a crack team of legal and forensic aviation experts. On the ground, more people are killed or severely injured. Suddenly, there is an explosion and the helicopter and plane are totally destroyed. Unable to get near, Dana boards the Ferris wheel and has the driver take her to the top where she snaps pictures of the crash. The remains of the aircraft are precariously perched atop the park's roller coaster. Once she finds them and makes sure they are OK, she has them escorted home and she begins an investigation of the crash site. ![]() She calls Pennsteel and learns Sullivan's helicopter and a small plane have collided over the amusement park.ĭana races to the scene and hunts for her daughters, Kirstie and Trina. Midway into the conversation, Dana suddenly gets only static. He's flying by helicopter to the firm's headquarters and calls Dana to get some info. After getting her daughters off on a field trip to the local amusement park, she heads for a meeting with her client, Pennsteel chief executive Victor Sullivan, to tell him how she won the case. ![]() Trial attorney Dana Svenssen has just returned to Philadelphia after winning a big case. MacDougal's newest legal thriller is a fast-paced ride even when it gets into technicalities. My only complaint is that the book doesn't focus enough on Thomas Pitt, Perry's best character. "Brunswick Gardens" is taut with tension and political intrigue. ![]() And Pitt knows that although his brother-in-law has become religious, Corde had been a womanizer in the past. She taunted Mallory because he had become a Roman Catholic and planned to go to Rome and become a priest. ![]() She often argued with Parmenter over his religious beliefs and may have caused Parmenter to begin doubting his faith. Tellman, believe that Unity was pushed down the stairs and the likely suspects are Parmenter, his son, Mallory, and the deacon, Dominic Corde, who is the widower of Charlotte's sister.Īs the investigation proceeds, Pitt learns that Unity had a brilliant mind, was a feminist, a proponent of Darwinism and three months pregnant. When Pitt gets to the mansion, in Brunswick Gardens, he learns that prior to the fall Parmenter and Unity had had a heated argument and Unity had shouted, "No, no, Reverend." Parmenter's wife, Vita, and their daughter, Tryphena, both heard Unity's cry and Vita said that on the landing above she "saw a man's shoulder and back as he went behind the jardiniere and flowers into the passage." Vita added that it was a dark jacket, possibly with coattails. Ramsay Parmenter, has fallen down the staircase of the minister's mansion and broken her neck. Unity Bellwood, a translator for the Rev. Assistant Police Commissioner Cornwallis summons Pitt and asks him to head the investigation of a very sensitive case that could hurt the Church of England.
